Fiona Kizzie Lee
Recorder, Medieval Keyboards, Pipe and Tabor, Shawm
 

Fiona Lee is currently pursuing a master’s degree at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, studying Medieval recorder and keyboards with Corina Marti and shawm with Ian Harrison. 

 

In 2016, after having graduated with a first-class honours degree in Music from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Fiona was granted both the Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund 2016/17 and the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence 2016-17 to pursue a Master’s degree in Music (Musicology) at King’s College London, in which she graduated with Distinction in November 2017. 

 

Besides having delivered papers in the 3rd Biennial Meeting of the East Asian Regional Association of the International Musicological Society and in the 17th Biennial International Conference on Baroque Music in Canterbury, U.K., Fiona has obtained distinctions in the LTCL, LRSM and FRSM on the recorder. She has also played in the master classes of Peter Holslag, Dan Laurin, Han Tol and Kees Boeke. 

 

Fiona is also the co-music director of L’Artiste, the only group specialising in music from the Medieval to the Baroque Period in Hong Kong. Together with L’Artiste, Fiona has frequently performed in local universities and various venues across the city, as well as in Japan.

Tabea Schwartz
Fiddle, Recorder, Pipe and Tabor
 

Tabea Schwartz studied at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Katharina Bopp, Corina Marti and Conrad Steinmann. Having chosen recorder to be her main instrument, she undertook in-depth studies in music and performance practices of Renaissance to Romantic music. After completing a Bachelor’s degree she specialised on an even earlier repertory on Medieval recorder, fiddle, and viola d’arco in a Performance Master. In her second Master’s degree focusing on instrumental pedagogy, Tabea won a scholarship for an exchange term at the Royal Academy of Stockholm. In June 2017, she graduated from the Master’s with distinction and was invited to complete her training in early bowed instruments at Basel’s School of Excellence with Baptiste Romain.

Tabea Schwartz works as an active soloist and chamber musician with groups such as Le Miroir de Musique, Novantik Project, Aria Variata and Abendmusiken in der Predigerkirche and has performed all over Europe, e.g. at the Globe Theatre London, the Stockholm Early Music Festival, the Fringe of the Early Music Festivals in Utrecht and Brugge, and both for Forum Alte Musik Zürich and Freunde Alter Musik Basel.

Apart from being a performer, Tabea has an interest for musicological work which adds to her artistic expertise. She gave her first paper at the international musicological conference MedRen in Brussels in 2015 and has started teaching Solmisation and Historical Performance Practise of the 16th centuryat Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in 2018.

Miriam Trevisan
Voice

Currently studying Medieval and Renaissance music with Dominique Vellard at Schola Cantorum Baseiliensis, Miriam Trevisan first began her career as a flautist and a soprano singer in various choirs and ensembles in Turin, Italy. After reading for her first Bachelor in Nursing Science at the University of Turin, Miriam completed a music degree at the Academy of the Teatro e Musical "Lim" in Rome. In 2017, Miriam further graduated from a three-year Bachelor’s degree on Renaissance and Baroque singing at the Conservatory "L. Refice "in Frosinone, where she studied with Furio Zanasi. Miriam has sung in concerts and operas conducted by Furio Zanasi (Turin 2015), Evangelina Mascardi (Rome 2015-2017) and Joao Janeiro (Faro 2016-2017) and has been involved in recordings and projects of various baroque ensembles.

 

 

Amy Farnell
Voice, Gittern
 

Born and raised in Texas, Amy Farnell holds a masters in early music from the University of Birmingham England where she sang with groups such as Ex Cathedra, Evoke, St George's Southwark, and Ecclesia. She also earned a performance degree in church music from Baylor University where she sang with groups like Texas Baroque, Baylor Early Music Ensembles, and even Tallis Scholars, as a part of Carnegie Hall's Renaissance Masterworks. 

 

She is currently studying medieval and renaissance vocal performance at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland, and has this year performed around Europe with Ad Parnassum, Instrumentalkollegium Bern, and Clerks Extraordinaire, as well as numerous concerts with Schola's ensembles. In her free time she does yoga, explores Switzerland, and does research in early music.

 

 

Tessa Roos
Voice
 

South African mezzo-soprano Tessa Roos moved to Europe in order to focus on Early Music. After having studied in Barcelona for one year, Tessa relocated to Basel in 2016 and is now completing her Masters in Vocal Performance at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with soprano Evelyn Tubb. Tessa simultaneously took part in their Advanced Vocal Ensemble Studies programme headed by Anthony Rooley, from which the vocal ensemble InVocare was born. 

During this time in Basel she has been able to explore earlier repertoires bracketed by Ancient Greek reconstructions with Conrad Steinmann and late-Renaissance liturgical settings with La Cetra Vocal Ensemble lead by Federico Sepúlveda. From September 2018 Tessa will be focusing on Renaissance music for another Masters at SCB. 

Also a choral conductor, Tessa has always been closely linked to a capella repertoires and has greatly appreciated getting to know various cultures and stories through this music. In addition to music, Tessa is working towards becoming a Wine Master. 

Vera Schnider
Medieval Harp

Vera Schnider is a harpist moving between all kinds of music: her horizon starts with the gothic harp and medieval music and goes through continuo-playing with the arpa doppia. She also plays an original Erard-harp from the 1820s and is active with contemporary music on the modern harp. She was educated in Lucerne (CH), Detmold (D) and at Schola Cantorum Basel (CH). Meanwhile she is internationally active, concerts and residencies are bringing her from University of Stanford over to Mariinsky theatre. But she is also very active in Switzerland and leading several ensembles (ensemble proton bern, ZARIN MOLL) as well as as a member of orchestras as Zurich Chamber Orchestra.

Béatrice Dunoyer
Voice
 

BÉATRICE DUNOYER started studying music at the age of 13 at the Petit Chanteurs Limousins manécanterie. From 2009 to 2011, with an aim to develop her singing and choral skills, she went to the Maîtrise de Notre-Dame de Paris (conducted by Lionel Sow). She also took Choral Conducting lessons from Ariel Alonso at CRD de Créteil and graduated in 2013. In the same period (2009-2014), she took over the musical direction of the Maîtrise de la Cathédrale de Limoges. She was then accepted into Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, studying with Dominique Vellard, and graduated in October 2017. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in performance with Vellard and Gerd Türk.

John Martling
Lute and Voice
 

John Martling began his musical education in the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden. There he studied the performance of early music and basso continuo on the lute and made exchange studies with Francesca Torelli at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Milan. He has completed the Bachelor and Master programme in Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Peter Croton, studying the use and repertoire of the theorbo, the archlute, and the baroque- and renaissance lute, as well as singing with Sebastian Goll. He is currently in the Specialized performance master of renaissance music programme with Marc Lewon as his teacher.
As a valued accompanist, John has performed together with many ensembles in Switzerland and in many other countries across Europe.

With the ensemble Viatoribus he was awarded the Romanus-Weichlein prize in the H.I.F. Biber competition in st. Florian in 2017.

In May 2018 he played the introductory concert in the yearly meeting of the German Lute Society's meeting in Füssen.
